Yet more Feedback
I asked both Nick and Simon (tutors) for some more feedback today. We had great discussions.
I specifically had written down these things that I wanted to discuss with Nick
Questions
- The shot after the Scooby trees, with the slight wobble. Would doing an Edgar Wright style zoom in on Sam F1 behind the tree work? I’m not sure about this idea, I think not, but someone else suggested it so I want a second opinion.
- Where Anna says, “Not far off”. I don’t think the 2 shots next to each other currently work. If I changed the 2nd to a close up would that work? Or any other suggestions?
- The “clever panning round Sam P to see Sam F1 in shot at the same time” shot. Is it better to find a way to appropriately put it in, or better to leave it out? Concern because Sam P has just said “What now?” a bit irritated, then he doesn’t look particularly irritated in the clever panning shot. Maybe when he is facing away, I could use some audio of Sam P saying “What?” to tie it in? I’d like it to be in because it is a key one of my “both Sam’s in shot at the same time” shots, but I’m concerned about the pacing. Will music over it will help the pacing? Or do I just need to bite the bullet and not out it in.
- End Credits between the end of the film and the post-End-Credit scene. Rather than just black I have mocked up backgrounds with hats in (see photos), to link it with being part of “The Wrong Hat” series of short films. Another idea like some films do is small boxes with bloopers in appearing. Or that and the hats.
These prompted a useful discussion with lots of helpful feedback.
The brief answers were
- No, it is good as it is, the wobble is barely noticeable. You can see the deliberate focus shift from the tree that Sam P is by to the one that Sam F1 is behind and you would lose that effect if you did a zoom in.
- We discussed a number of options depending on what shots I have. I know I have a pan of Anna in the opposite direction, so try that instead to match up with the pan of Sam P
- Sadly, the answer confirmed what I had known really. I will have to leave this shot out. I did know that, really. I have thought about it lots of different ways. I just wanted to be sure there wasn’t anything I was missing that would mean it could go it. We discussed was there anywhere else that it would fit and enhance the film, but there wasn’t. So it will have to go.
- Don’t put bloopers here, they will change the atmosphere before the Post Credits scene. And the hats backgrounds are better.
Next I spoke with Simon. He also had some useful feedback. He also said that my film reminded him of Primer (2004) which is one of his favourite movies, so I was very pleased about that.
