FMP – Journal 31st March 2021

From College to Where?

I wrote at the end of my Journal on the 20th of March that “It has been a long creative journey, with lots of problem solving and solutions, but I am finally there”

Wrong.

Just before the College Proposal deadline, a bombshell dropped.

Attila (tutor) explained that we may still be on blended learning after Easter. We would definitely not be in the first week after Easter, then we may be back to our original blended learning schedule. He was very frustrated that he couldn’t tell us either way for sure, and I think he has been having a million headaches over all this, since much of it is out of his hands. Because of the unfortunate way that our blended learning schedule fell, a quick calculation showed me that worst case scenario is that we would have 4 days in College (the Monday that week was a Bank Holiday) since the only other time was the week before hand-in.

This was devastating, since having access to College over at least a couple of weeks for alternate filming days, due to corridors being a key part of my plan was vital. It was going to be challenging enough due to Covid, but I knew, from when I filmed my Year 1 Spy themed Toast Advert in the corridors at College, that it would take several days. My 45 second Toast Advert took a day and a half, since you are limited in blocking corridors off, even more so during the Covid Restrictions. My plan was reliant on College being where I would be spending most of my time after Easter. Worst case scenario could blow this out of the water.

Not only that, but I am aware that quite a lot of people are planning on filming in College. I don’t know about the Level 3 Year 1’s or the Level 2’s. But this makes me concerned that there will be an equipment issue too. If we end up only having 4 days in College there could be a lot of people wanting the same equipment at the same time.

After a lot of deliberation, and trying to really think round the problem, I decided that I need to scrap filming this film at College and go back to the drawing board. I was not happy.
