FMP Journal Three – Over February Half Term
“Looks like you’re toast.” – FMP on Toast.
I still have a lot more research to do into comedy. However, I have been thinking about the script that I wrote for my Toast advert, and I’ve been analysing it, trying to work out why it is that pretty much everyone who sees my advert laughs. I have written about my conclusions in my Research Section
To be honest, when I made this film, I wasn’t aware of as much of this theory as I am starting to think about now. It was only my second College film. I did what felt right to me, to get the style that I could see playing out in my mind. I am pleased to have it confirmed, by the theory, that this is an effective way to get the reaction that I wanted from the audience. I had looked at humorous adverts as part of my research, to work out what worked and what didn’t.
But I didn’t delve as deeply into Comedy Theory as I will be doing in this FMP project. I hope that research in this area will help me to write and direct a better film than I may have done otherwise. But I definitely don’t want to lose my own “feeling” about what works and what doesn’t, since that “feeling” is what helped to make a very successful, and unexpected, Spy-themed Toast advert.
